Singapore Central Fire Station

I meant to write about this back in January, but like so many other things I should really do (haircut, journal submissions, reply to Una's email - sorry Una), it slipped my mind.
Anyway, whilst enjoying what has increasingly come to seem like a little bit of big city tropical heaven, we discovered that the city's central fire station had an open day coinciding with our visit. So, while Sanae went off to ensure that Singapore's department stores would have a bumper start to the new year, Cian and myself went along to the fire station to do manly things with big, chunky manly pieces of fire gear.
And it was great, albeit suffocatingly hot.
Highlights included our trip up the fire hoist;

and Cian's instinctive expertise in handling a high pressure fire hose whilst dousing a potential outbreak of catastrophic bush fire in the station's flower garden.

He was less impressed however, with the fire chief's jeep, or rather the fact they wouldn't let us take it for 'an auld spin' around town.

I was more impressed with the ambulances which had air conditioning and surprisingly comfortable stretchers.

By the end of the morning we had both seen and done enough to figure that 'Rescue Squad Gaynor' were "good to go", so we strapped ourselves into Ladder Truck #1 and waited for the call.

Which came from Mammy telling us we were late for lunch and we had to go.
